Work:measure of energy transfer that occurs when an object is moved over a distance by an external force at least part of which is applied in the direction of the displacement.

Negative work:Work can be either positive or negative: if the force has a component in the same direction as the displacement of the object, the force is doing positive work. If the force has a component in the direction opposite to the displacement, the force does negative work. (Eg:Now, since the direction of Frictional force and that of displacement is opposite, hence the work done here by the Frictional force is negative.)
